So we have finally made it out of La Boca and we stumble upon a street called Defensa which runs north out of La Boca pretty much all the way up to the subway so we follow that for a while. As it turns out, Defensa is also the main artery for the San Telmo barrio and it was super rad. There were a bunch of good looking restaurants and shops and a big square area with a million outside seating options for the surrounding restaurants. It was cool. We decided we would be back eventually to check it out during the day on better terms. The rest of the trek home was long, but we felt refreshed by San Telmo and were excited to get home and take a nap. With broken feet and $15ARS in our pockets, we finally made it home. After a quick siesta, SP texted us and asked if we wanted to grab some dinner and then go to a jazz spot, Thelonius Club, to see some live music. We showered up and headed to a peruvian jank, La Vicky Rica, and were kind of blown away. We get there and this woman, who we will call Vicky, was sitting at a table barking orders at the staff and telling beggars to get the hell out. She ran the place so hard it was intimidating for me. I wanted to shake her hand. And apparently she runs another restaurant across the street, also called La Vicky Rica, and knows exactly what is in inventory. Originally we ordered something and the waitress came back and told us they didn’t have it, but Vicky knew otherwise. She hollered at our waitress and told her that in fact they did have it. The waitress apologized and the order was sent. Needless to say, the chicken was very fresh. After Vicky tossed out a few undesirables and probably made a few drug deals, we left and headed to Thelonius which turned out to be awesome. The club was very cool, the band was great, and the beer was cold. Fortunately or unfortunately, Holly and I found ourselves with only another $100 ARS which paid for a mojito and a flippin’ Heineken. Fine. We were tired anyway and the band finished up so no worries. We were pretty close to home so we’d just walk and hit the hay. Turns out, my maps app was going through an update phase and proved to be essentially worthless on our walk home. Thelonius to our flat was probably 15 blocks, but it took us 2 hours to get home. As it goes, five way intersections and a general lack of street signes make navigation rather difficult. Anyways, after being stressed out of our minds and walking in only a few circles, we finally made it home, and so ends the 20 mile day.
