Cata International

Today marks our last official day in buenos aires. Hard to believe three and a half weeks have come and gone. We started the day early, packed up, and finally left the apartment around noon. We had no real plans for the day except to drop our bags at withers apartment for safe keeping until our 8:30 departure. So after ditching the bags, we started what would be 5 hours worth of wandering that was intermittently broken up by coffee and snack breaks.

We were wandering our way through Polermo SoHo and realized we weren’t too far from the Burger Joint. We’d been here once before and if you’ve been keeping up with the blog you probably know all about it. Anyways it was a perfect lunch spot and we knew it was yummy so we snatched up a Jamaican burger(my personal favorite) and a la blue burger(the new blue cheese addition to the menu), some fries, and cervezas and made our way to a table outside to enjoy some good ole grease and beautiful weather.

Yum yum yummy yay, Jamaican burgers all the way! Grilled pineapples, bacon, pickles, cheddar cheese, cilantro mayo, and chilli ketchup.

After our nutritious lunch we continued on with our wandering. 4 hours, a McDonald’s stop, a Burger King banos stop, and a cafe con leche later we scooped up our bags from withers and hoped in a cab to retiro.

When we arrived at the bus station we had about an hour to kill so we grabbed a table at a crumby restaurant and enjoyed some fernet y cocas and a somewhat unfriendly server.

Finally 8:30! We’d found our bus platform and made our way on to Cata International en route to Mendoza! I’ll start off by saying buses are my new favorite way to travel. Maybe they aren’t necessarily the most efficient form of transportation but who needs to get anywhere fast when your riding in style with a fully recling lazy boy with tv and champagne. I’m sold. I’ll travel all of South America this way.

To give you a little better description of the Cata International, it’s a double decker bus with all the bells and whistles. Not all of them are quite this impressive but we chose to ride cama suite (bed suites) vs semi cama (half bed). So essentially we had fully recling seats with curtain enclosures.

Being cama suite newbies, we chose the front seats on the second level. Also in total newb fashion, we had to push every button and test out the seats like a bunch of kids riding shotgun for the first time. It was 8:33 and we were off to Mendoza feeling more excited than ever! They real adventure has finally begun.

An hour into the trip, were served dinner. Not bad but interesting. The meal started with an entire trey of carby treats including 2 rolls, crackers, a miniature torta, a miniature empanada, another roll, a slice of ham and a slice of cheese. If I was 5 this would probably be a meal come true. Either way Brent and I are far from picky and we indulged in an extra dose of carbs for the day. This concluded our first course which in my mind was an excellent time to take a bathroom break. Wrong. I was ushered back up the stairs to my seat by the stewardess screaming, “No! Comines!” (No, you eat!) and waving her arms at me. Again I was feeling a little like a 5 year old… I was completely bewildered and kind of ashamed – like I hadn’t properly excused myself from the dinner table. I also was now scared of our stewardess. Either way I was going to have to wait. The second course followed, as well as, coffee and champagne and then, after dinner, is when they play the instructional video that explains that there is no bathroom use during meal times. Excellent.

We drove into the night and when we woke we were looking into the mountains and surrounded by grapes!

Chau for now chicos.
