Workaway – Chile

August 29, 2013

Well its not surprising that after only a few weeks on the road, we’ve become tired of the tourist circuit. We were once again ready to settle in and get to know a place instead of popping in for a mere acquaintance. We were staying in Puerto Varas where the weather left much to be desired. We stayed huddled inside all day watching movies and debating how we should address our sudden urge to abandon the tourism gig for a few weeks. The only future goal we had set was to be in Torres Del Paine the first of October for the start of their spring season which meant we had at least a month to kill.

Having had such an incredible workaway experience in Argentina, we consulted their website for opportunities close by in Chile. Not even getting half way through the list of hosts we strike gold. A recently opened restaurant in the Perez Rosales National Park looking for volunteers to live and work in the park with Volcano Osorno sitting right smack in the backyard of their lodge. Best part is we hear back not even 5 minutes after our inquiry and its only a 45 minutes bus ride from our hostel in Puerto Varas. We’re sold. We check out of the hostel a day early and go for it.

When we arrived, we were in shock… smiles all around. We’ve got a great little bunk room in this incredible lodge that was recently restored. We’ve got Lake Llanquihue in our front yard and Volcano Osorno in the back. There is an awesome group of volunteers from across the globe including Taiwan, France, Chile, Argentina, and the US. It was way better than what we were bargaining for.

Ill let the pictures do the talking from here on out.
