Andes Lands

November 6, 2013

After an incredible month on the road, we were due for another workaway. We were finally leaving Patagonia for good and were working North which meant we’d be passing through one of our favorite spots. Good ol’ San Rafael. We couldn’t think of driving through without paying a visit to Michael and Vicky, our very first workaway hosts. We wrote them a quick email and within a week we were back on Andes Lands enjoying San Rafael at the start of spring and in full bloom.

We fell right back in the routine and kept busy during the day cleaning the pool, mowing the lawn, and helping in the veggie patch and by night with cards, asados, and great company. We had lots of catching up to do with Michael and Vicky and loved seeing the projects and progress made around the farm over the past couple months. We were so happy to be back, be with them and their dogs, and I still can’t get over how beautiful it is in Spring. Needless to say our 10 days there went by fast.

In honor of our last visits slow roasted boston butt (see post here) and as a way to say thank you for another incredible week in San Rafael, Brent pulled out all the stops and made an incredible southern-style BBQ feast for all. Complete with a 9 kilo slow roasted ham in the mud-oven (we were unable to get another pork shoulder, sorry Bert), rosemary potato salad, grilled corn, homemade pickles, fresh squeezed lemonade, and apple crumble. It was a few weeks early but we’ll consider that our thanksgiving feast.

Until next time San Rafael.

  1. Holly,

As always, it sounds like a great trip. I think we need to create a recipe book ( with pictures) of dishes you and brent experienced on your trip. When you all are back in Richmond, I will buy whatever you need if you would cook some of these for us.

Suppose to get a bit of ice tomorrow, but nothing like the cold you had this winter. Just Enough for a bit of hysteria and the news channels to obsess about. With all the coverage this past week, we’ll probably just have some rain.

    Enjoy wherever you are.

    Safe travels,

    Joan
